This is a very good mixtape that most likely, you have never heard of. It starts almost as strong as a mixtape can start, then gets kind of weak, picks it back up near the middle of the tape and never looks back. This tape ends very strongly, and has a few tracks that need to be heard by any fan of hip hop. Mic Galper was only 17 at the time of this tapes release, but you would never know it. When he says he was “Born wit a flow” he’s not joking, the flow is a down right serious. He’s puts a solid effort in coming with some creative lyrics as well, I really enjoyed this tape for the most part.
The track by track:
#1 Born Wit a Flow – 5 out of 5
This tape starts out extremely strong, backs up the mixtapes title immediately. It also does a very good job of giving Galper a proper introduction. The simple yet unforgettable beat and minimalist hook do this track very well. Galper jumps in and out of a multitude of different flows effortlessly and really makes you hate drake even more for just havin 1 flow. This is one of the most memorable and stand out tracks on the tape.
#2 Mama Mia – 3 out of 5
The autotune hook may annoy some, but I didn’t find it to troublesome. Galper comes correct with the flow again, spittin fairly quickly for the majority of the track. Galper also gives a small glimpse of some story telling skills on this track, overall a good track.
#3 D-Boyz feat. Lil Henchmen – 2 out of 5
It’s always disheartening when a talented rapper with a flow the caliber of Galpers comes with a less then creative auto tune track tryin to sing. This kid’s A+ flow and creative lyrics are absent on this track, which in turn causes this track to be a “skip” for me. The hook is annoying and difficult to listen to, the beat does not work for me, and the verses don’t make up for these shortcomings. The feature is less then forgettable as well.
#4 Pussy Cat – 3 out of 5
The beat is interesting, but not enough to hold attention. Lyrically the track is a lot better then what you’d expect from a track entitled “Pussy Cat”. This track is definitely worth a listen, but you most likely won’t be playing this every time you listen to this tape. The last verse of this track is the stand out verse, and bumps this track up to a 3 out of 5.
#5 Sexercise – 2 out of 5
I don’t like this track. Galper did a good job ridin this “weird” beat but overall the track leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The hook is terrible, the lyrics are forgettable and not inventive, and the flow is boring in more then a few places.
#6 Gotta Ride Slow – 3.5 out of 5
Beat, flow, and lyrics all come together and really work on this track. The hook is not that great, but the rest of the track more then makes up for it.
#7 Fast Life – 3.5 out of 5
The classic beat is more then welcome, and Galper rises to the challenge well. In what has become a pattern of this mixtape, again – the hook is not up to par. Verses go hard, and he throws in a creative shout out to Pun at the start of the second verse. Overall good track.
#8 Speak Murder 3.9 out of 5
This is where the tape really starts to pick up and gain momentum. Flow is ridiculous, finally we get a hook that doesn’t hurt to listen to, and everything just “works”. Galper steps up his lyric game as well, this is one of the stand out tracks on the mixtape.
#9 Outer Space ’90 3.8 out of 5
Another stand out track, the mixtape keeps the momentum going. Again, the hook is “just o.k” and may even be annoying to some, but the beat flow and lyrics come correct and the track is very addicting.
#10 Medicine 2.7 out of 5
Galper sings on this track, and surprisingly he does well, I actually like it. The feature by the female artist was pretty bad, ruining the track as a whole. He manages to squeeze out another good (but rare) good hook on this one as well.
#11 Go Girl Rmx 2.5 out of 5
This track is O.K for what it is, the most commercial track on the tape next to Medicine. Usually a skip for me, nothing special here.
#12 So Disrespectful 4 out of 5
The next stand out track on the tape, this track gets it done. The concept is executed perfectly, the beat works, and this track has arguably the best hook on the tape. As usual with the good tracks on this tape, lyrics and flow are on point.
#13 The Darkside 4 out of 5
Another high point on the album, for me the most memorable opening of a track on the tape and one of my favorite beats as well. Hook is … eh (but hey, this is a mixtape. We aren’t here for the hooks!). One of my favorite tracks hands down on the tape.
#14 Swagger Juice feat. Chris Webby 4.5 out of 5
Webby really makes a showing on this track, this is one of the strongest tracks on the tape and is dead smack in the middle of the strongest part of the tape (the end). I like webby more on this track, he really did his thing.
#15 Dope 2 The Ear 2.9 out of 5
This is a good track. The beat is pretty weak, the flow is a bit “Strange” (the whole track is , “wacky”). Worth a listen.
#16 So Oogh 5 out of 5
The opening and closing tracks of this tape are the most memorable. Flow beat lyrics, everything just…WOW. This track really shows what Galper is capable of and is easily his best showing on the tape in my opinion.
