Hate – The misuse of the word
- Wacka Floppa Flame is not a good rapper.
- Plies is a sorry excuse for a hip hop artist.
- Although drake provided us with some good music in his mixtapes before going mainstream, he is now repetitive and boring.
- Besides for No Ceilings, Waynes music has been for the most part trash since the carter 2.
- BIG was lyrically superior to Pac (In turn Pac had much more presence, style and commanded way more of your attention then BIG)
I’m sure plenty of you have labeled me as a hater by this point. You may or may not agree with the above statements, but one thing we all need to agree on is that none of that can be considered hate.
The word “hate” has been misused and abused an incredible amount in the last few years. It’s to the point where you can’t have a negative opinion about something without being labeled a hater. Now if we want to express our dislike of something, we often have to start our statement with “I’m not hatin but…” in order to avoid the inevitable coming of “Stop hatin! He’s getting his money. Don’t hate on a dude gettin his money”.
Now let me say that I don’t care what anyone else does. You do what you gotta do . If you wanna make music about supermanin ho’s and make it available for children to purchase – go right ahead. My problem starts with when you label it hip hop. Get outta here. That is dance music, not hip hop. And that is my opinion, not hate.
The real haters are those labeling anyone with a negative opinion a hater. They hate anything but a positive view of something. Sadly the truth is that the vast majority of hip hop is trash, and I will express my opinion on this wave of bubble gum hip pop as long as it’s around and labeling itself as hip hop. As soon as it calls itself what it is (New Genre: Bubble Gum Hip Pop) then I won’t care about it anymore – it won’t enter my train of thought again.
So what is hate?
Since I’ve made it so clear how much I don’t regard soulja boy (Yea that’s right, I won’t even capitalize his name) as a rapper, lets stick with him as an example. Hate would be for me to deny that he’s ever had a good verse. If I dislike this kid so much, that I can’t even admit when he comes with some decent music – then that’s hate. Take for example this track (which is the best I’ve heard from him, kinda losses it at the end of the second verse and onward though):
For me to deny that he was actually “o.k” on that track would be hate, because I think he did do “o.k”. (I also think he paid for that verse, but we’ll leave that for another article…)
A true objectionable opinion can never be hate – I wonder how long it will be until the “hip hop community” (in quotations because true hip hop heads already know the deal) will realize this.
Real talk !! and thats a Nice article too..
